This is about the Dream World of the A Nightmare on Elm Street film series. If you are looking for one or more other versions of the Dream World, please check Dream World (disambiguation).

Note: Logically, this version of the Dream World would have to also exist in the Friday the 13th films previous to Freddy vs. Jason.

The Dream World is a dimension parallel to the Physical World. It must be noted that in this context "world", when referring to either the physical world or the Dream World, it doesn't mean that it is a planet and that it is only a dimension. Hypothetically, the Dream World may contain all the planets, stars, galaxies, and so on as the physical world does.

To date, the nature of the Dream World has been only vaguely explained.

It is clearly shown that objects can be pulled out of the Dream World and into the physical world. It is strongly implied that objects can also be pulled out of the physical world and into the Dream World as well. It is strongly hinted that the line between the physical world and the Dream World is inherently blurry. This isn't even counting the town of Springwood in Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare. Both humans and animals can access the Dream World while asleep.

The Dream World was Freddy Krueger's main domain, where he torments or kills his victims there. In the Dream World, Freddy is powerful and immortal to the point of invincibility, as he is able to withstand any injury that would normally harm or kill a normal person. He is also able to manipulate his victims' dreams to whatever he sees fit, mostly in the form of the victim's personality and/or fears.

Any injury that people and animals sustain in the Dream World affects them in the physical world, and, if they die in the Dream World, they die in the physical world as well. This is an example of it being hinted that the line between the physical world and the Dream World is blurry.

Although dreamers are able to manifest their own powers in the Dream World, they are rarely, if ever, close to being a match for Freddy's own power. Among all dreamers, only Alice Johnson has shown comparable power to Freddy in the Dream World. (Amanda Krueger has shown comparable power in the Dream World, but at the time, she wasn't a living dreamer as she is already dead.)
