Camp Crystal Lake is a summer camp that opened in the 1950s, but was shut down after a series of unsolved murders. These unsolved murders were committed by the camp cook Pamela Voorhees after the death of her son Jason Voorhees. In the 1980s, the camp was opened again but before it can be completely restored, Mrs. Voorhees went on a killing spree, murdering the owner and all of the counselors except for one, Alice Hardy. Alice decapitated Mrs. Voorhees with a machete. Apparently, however, Jason Voorhees either never died or he returned to life and witnessed the death of his mother. Subsequently, whenever anyone has attempted to reopen or spend time at Camp Crystal Lake, Jason would go on a massive killing spree.

In Freddy vs. Jason, Freddy Krueger revives Jason to kill for him, counting on getting the credit for the kills himself if they are committed in Springwood. He sends Jason away from Camp Crystal Lake and Jason begins butchering teenagers. Jason, however, has no intention on quitting killing and begins taking Freddy's intended victims. This causes Freddy to possess Bill Freeburg, a teenager, and tranquilizing Jason.

While Jason is asleep, Lori Campbell, Will Rollins, Kia Waterson and Charlie Linderman take Jason's body to Camp Crystal Lake. Their plan is for Lori to pull Freddy out of her dreams and push him into a fight with Jason. They figure that their best case scenario is that Jason would win and have no reason to leave Camp Crystal Lake and return to Springwood. They are ultimately successful, with Jason defeating Freddy before falling into the lake. At the end of the movie, however, Jason emerges from the water carrying Freddy's head, which turns and winks at the audience.
